Stop motion for the day

Brand, experience, and definitions

Here’s a nice description about brand and experience from Brandon Schauer and Josh Levine posted on the Adaptive Path blog.

Documentary for the day: Objectified

On the heels of beloved Helvetica, comes Objectified, the second documentary film by Gary Hustwit. And like Helvetica, the new film is intended as a conversation among industry experts — this time, of industrial design.

Crowdsourcing agency for the day

victorsandspoils

Victors & Spoils is a new ad agency based in Boulder that bills itself as “the world’s first creative (ad) agency built on crowdsourcing principles.” Their stated goal is “to provide businesses with a better way to solve their marketing, advertising and product-design problems by engaging world’s most talented creatives.”

Feel free to go help them design their new logo if you’re into that kind of thing. It’ll be interesting to see how the whole crowdsourcing strategy plays out.

Old school book publishing for the day

websters

Pictorial Webster’s: Inspiration to Completion is a jaw-dropping wonder to behold. I love the patience required, the expertise with old school craft, and of course – the finished product.

Thanks for the heads up, Chris!

WebMynd happiness for the day

Go here. Scroll down. Be happy. I’m sure the plug-in is nice too. Maybe I’ll get to it eventually… once I quit scrolling up and down.

Podcast for the day

clearleft-headscape

The folks at Clearleft and Headscape recently got together for a chat. The first 7 minutes are pretty dopey, but if you can get past the setup, the 49 minutes that follow are really interesting. They covered the following topics:

  • The differences between the working practices of Clearleft and Headscape
  • The beginnings of the two companies
  • The pros and cons of being a total service company like Headscape or specialising like Clearleft
  • The importance of passion in what we do
  • Deciding when to adopt new innovations
  • Whether locations affects success
  • Our plans for the future

Another multi-touch UI concept

Upcoming Meeting Reminder

Transplant Come join us on Friday, October 16th at 6:30 PM for our next meeting. Our host and guest speaker for the evening will be Michael Calienes, the founder of Transplant and the co-founder of The Conversation Factory. The gist of the discussion will revolve around "exploring the possibilities of non-traditional marketing strategies based on today’s ever-evolving media landscape" – which is what The Conversation Factory is all about.

Over the past 19 years, Michael has worked on virtually every communications medium imaginable in both English and Spanish languages. From direct mail and online for General Motors, Discovery Channel Latin America, and SOL Sotheby’s to print and television for Nextel and NorthernLight.com, he has helped clients craft their unique brand voice, and helped make their message stick. Michael’s work has been awarded locally, nationally, and internationally at Addys, Hatch, CMYK, Print Magazine, One Show, and the Webbys.

If you haven’t already done so, please help us plan by letting me know if you plan to attend! You can shoot me an email or give me a call at 850-212-4044. I want to make sure we have enough seats, snacks, and such. The office is located at 3033 Powell Road, Tallahassee, FL 32301 (The pin on the Google Map is a little off. It’s the last driveway as you head south on Powell, just before turning left onto Eliza Road. The office is in the building located in the back right corner.)

Layout tweak tool for the day

Not looking to do a complete redesign? Just need to play around with the layout of a site? Check out this demo from BoagWorld, or just go get Grid. It’s a bookmarklet that superimposes an editable grid over your page. Using something like FireBox, you could then adjust your CSS to fit. Very cool.
